About Me

Hello, my name is Caleb Huelsenbeck.

I am a recent college graduate with a degree in Visual Communications & Design. Though, "Visual Communicator" is a bit of a vague title, so I prefer to call myself a "Storyteller".

I am obsessed with the art of storytelling.

I love the art of drawing, writing, playing the guitar and piano, and I especially love the art of image manipulation. All my hobbies involve some form of silent communication, conveying a message without speech. But image editing is special to me, it is something that I feel I am connected with, more deeply so with than some of my other hobbies.

When I am able to transform an image and turn it into something "better", it feels like I've done some sort of magic or casted a spell. It is certainly a rewarding feeling and something that I chase. The art of image manipulation is something that I pursue every day and try to get better at.

Apart from that, there is much more to me than just my hobbies. I love nature and have a fascination with the untouchable. I like to stargaze and contemplate the universe, I enjoy philosophy and learning more about the way us people think. Though, I suppose living in eastern Iowa doesn't leave you many other options. Don't get me wrong, I love my state, but I wish there was more to see here. You can only pull so much inspiration from staring out at those repeating fields.

I have an older brother, a dog named "Archie", and some amazing friends. I hope to meet more people and grow my passions in my pursuit of artistry.

My Editing Philosophy

I think photography is one of the most interesting and enjoyable forms of art. I'm sure you've heard the saying that a picture is worth a thousand words,
but I like to reword it as, "An entire story's worth of content can be absorbed from a single, ordinary picture."

This process of interpreting is easier said than done. Though I think each and every picture has a story, I don't think every picture conveys its story well. Or, at least as well as it could.

It is this common problem that photographs face and my position as storyteller to solve. I know there is a deep and interesting story in each image, it's just about finding a way to properly express it.
